Mission

Advocates for Bartow's Children is committed to accepting and advocating for children, youth and families, in order to assist them to develop their fullest potential.

Flowering Branch Children's Emergency Shelter

This is a short term residential and counseling center for troubled youth. While in residence, youth receive individual, group and family counseling. All youth or families in the community can contact the shelter for counseling services, and need not be residents to take advantage of these services.

Teen Power

Citizens concerned about the high rate of Teen Pregnancy meet monthly to develop and implement programs to address this concern. The task force works with the successful "Baby Think It Over" dolls which are available to the community. The Teen Mothers support group, led by professional Dorothy Morgan, for mothers who are 15-19 meets weekly to discuss such topics as nutrition, discipline, and self-esteem..

Family Retreat Program

Custom-designed program assists families and adolescents. Families and adolescents are involved in personal, family and group activities designed to strengthen and improve their understanding of their family. Follow up includes three home visits with each family. The program is designed for humor, laughter and fun!

Rainbows

RAINBOWS is an internationally proven program of weekly grief and loss support groups for children, adolescents, and teens. The program is designed to help these children deal with their feelings of grief and anger then constructively begin a new life. This program is not a therapy session. It is strictly a peer support group with caring, trained adults to guide.

Children Cope With Divorce

This nationally acclaimed program of Families First is designed to help parents and children in Bartow County adjust to new family roles during and after divorce. Attendance is required for all divorced parents with children under 17 in Georgia, before a divorce can become final.

After School Hang Out (ASHO)

The focus of this collaboration with the Etowah Area Housing Authority is to mobilize and organize the community to build upon youth assets. This unique approach to teen pregnancy reduction involves middles school youth in an after school program.

Peer Educators

Youth trained in Substance Abuse, HIV and Pregnancy Prevention education work with youth from Flowering Branch, local schools, and other community organizations.

Youth Advisory Board

Volunteer youth from the community participate in a wide variety of activities such as organizing fund raisers, leading group sessions with shelter residents, and serving as community Youth Ambassadors.

Bartow County Child Council

The proceeds of a gift from William Weinman family, overseen by Advocates, help families with children in need of assistance with basic living expenses.

Georgia Council on Child Abuse

As a Bartow County's official chartered council, Advocates for Bartow's Children is committed to the common mission of preventing Child Abuse in all its forms. Volunteers and staff create and implement community awareness campaigns on this very real problem, and collaborate with our counterparts around the state and country.
